The above table shows the average number of servings for a standard size sponge wedding cake (1” x 2” slices). Please double the number of portions for a fruit cake (as they are traditionally cut in smaller 1” x 1” slices) and half them for dessert slices (to allow for 2” x 2” slices).  The deep cakes will provide the same number of servings but the portion sizes will be larger.

Minis (miniature cakes) can be given as favours (1 per person) or can be cut in half to provide smaller cake portions.

Allergies and Special Dietary Requirements

Nuts: Our fruitcakes and those with Nutella spread are the only cakes that contain nuts as an ingredient although it is possible to create these cakes and exclude the nut element.  Our other cakes do not contain nuts as an ingredient, however they are prepared in an environment that does use nuts and also we cannot guarantee that the ingredients that we use have not been contaminated at source. If you or one of your guests has a nut allergy, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Alcohol: Our fruitcakes are made with brandy or rum, but we can also make them alcohol free if required.

Dairy Free and Wheat Free: It may be possible to adapt some of our recipes to exclude dairy or wheat products. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Food colouring: Some of our cakes have coloured icing or coloured sugarcraft decorations. If you or one of your guests has an allergy, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Design Service

Each cake is bespoke and individually designed to your specifications.   We can design a cake to complement your special occasion and match with elements from your theme (colour scheme, invitations, hobbies and personal chracteristics).  We will work with you to create your perfect cake and can either design something completely new or, if you've seen a cake you like within our gallery, we can adapt a design to suit your preferences by changing the colours, flowers and decorations.

Cake Decorations

Fresh Flowers - If your cake design requires fresh flowers, your florist will supply these. We will liaise directly with your florist to make sure everything is perfect.  Please note however that not all flowers are suitable for use as a cake decoration due to possible toxicity and contamination of the cake.  Please ask your florist for more details as we cannot be liable for any contamination to our food product from decorations not provided by Lady Emily.

Non-Edible Materials - Please note that the accessories such as dowels (to support stacked cakes), cake bases, ribbons, brooches, flowers (fresh or fake), diamantes, feathers, decorative birds and butterflies etc. that are used to decorate some of our cakes are not edible and must be removed from your cake before serving.  All of our decorations and accessories are only used at the client's request and Lady Emily accepts no responsibility for any physical harm that may arise from their use.

Decoration Purchase/Hire - Some of our cake decorations are available to purchase as a keep-sake or reminder of your special day.  Some are available to hire for an agreed cheque deposit (usually £20).  These decorations must be returned to us within 14 days of your event, unless agreed otherwise, and your cheque will be returned to you.  See the information section for each cake for more information about the decorations used or contact us to discuss your requirements.  If you have a favourite brooch or decoration then it may be possible to incorporate this into the design of your cake.  Let us know and we will be happy to advise.

Design Alterations - Your cake design will be agreed in writing at the time of booking.  Design alterations may be possible if the request is made prior to one month (28 days) in advance of the agreed event date.  If the agreed alteration affects the cost then your balance will be adjusted accordingly.

Consultations and Bookings

Consultations - Consultations are by appointment only as we only take on a limited number of commissions each year.
Please contact us to arrange an appointment.  It may be possible to arrange for cake tasting samples to be provided at your consultation for a small fee.

Lead Times - We ask for 3 months notice if possible for wedding cakes, however depending on our schedule, we may be able to accept a booking at shorter notice.  Please contact us to discuss your requirements.  If your cake contains fruitcake layers or minis then we will bake these as far in advance as possible depending on when the order is placed as these cakes mature over time and are fed regularly with alcohol (if required).  If your cake contains sponge cake layers or minis then we will bake these the week of your event to ensure that they are fresh and delicious.

Booking - To confirm an order, a non-refundable deposit of £100 is required. The balance is due 1 month before the delivery or collection of the cake. We accept payment by cheque, and BACS transfer.

Cancellation - If you cancel your order for any reason up to one month (28 days) before the date of your event, the deposit (£100) is non-refundable.  If your order is cancelled less than one month (28 days) from the agreed event date when you have paid your full balance, you shall receive a refund of 50% of the total cost.  Lady Emily recommends that all wedding clients take out full wedding insurance to cover against unforseen circumstances that may affect your celebration.

We can supply the glass and ceramic stands shown in our wedding cake gallery for a small hire fee (usually £20).  A cheque deposit of £50 is required if you would like the use of one of these stands. The stand must be returned to us within 14 days of your event, unless agreed otherwise, and your cheque deposit will be returned to you.
